Lemon balm (common balm)- benefits
The use of lemon balm is practically unlimited. Many experts suggest that it has no contraindications.
Lemon balm has antispasmodic, antimicrobial and antidepressant properties. It is recommended to all nervous disorders, heart diseases, and indigestion. It is used in the preparation of lotions and creams for an aging and sensitive skin.
Most often lemon balm is used in the preparation of infusion or tea. The healing effect is due to its ethereal oils.
They are synthesized in the tender leaves of the plant itself and make up about 0.33% of the composition of cellular structures. Namely, oils provide a relaxing and so-called calming effect - they contain the components: citral, citronellal, geraniol, as well as vitamin C, tanning components, organic acids, and resins.
How to prepare lemon balm tea?
This tea has different purposes: seeking comfort, but it can also treat problems with digestion or cold. Applying balm to another tea mixture can only be preventive. Healing tea is made only from the herb.
Preparation:
In a cup of boiling water (250 ml), add a teaspoon of dried lemon balm. It can be drunk after 10 minutes. You’ll feel calm throughout the whole day, with two or three cups. It can be given to hyperactive children, starting with one teaspoon and gradually increasing the dose under the supervision of a physician phytotherapeutist.
Pregnant women can drink 2-3 tablespoons daily.
Prepared in this way, lemon balm tea helps with colds and flu: important here is the antimicrobial action of the herb, anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.
Treating hemorrhoids
The astringent effect of lemon balm together with its analgesic impact, make it especially useful for hemorrhoids.
Folk medicine recommends intake of potions and infusions, in combination with other herbs and micro enema with fresh juice from lemon balm.
Preparation of lemon balm juice
Take leaves and stalks of the plant, freshly picked, mill them with meat grinder, squeeze it and the prepared juice is ready for micro enema.
The juice should be fresh for 12 days, so make it every day. Dissolve one teaspoon of juice into 200 ml of warm water. This should shrink hemorrhoidal nodes, to neutralize inflammation and pain, and to strengthen venous walls.
Infusion for bile and liver
An infusion of lemon balm is great remedy. It improves bile secretion and have soothing effect in biliary colic.
It balances metabolic processes and the functions of the digestive organs, which is important for the health of the gallbladder and liver. An infusion of lemon balm can be drunk preventive - against complications of liver disease, gallstones etc.
How to prepare lemon balm infusion in sick gallbladder and liver?
Use dried leaves and blossoms of the herb. Pour two cups of boiling water over a dried lemon balm. Strain after half an hour, and drink it 3-4 times a day, half a cup, 30 minutes before eating.
Lemon balm in hyperthyroidism and thyroiditis
Make an alcohol extract and drink 15-20 drops, with a little water, before meals, 2-3 times a day.
This therapy can last a month, but consult your phytotherapeutist, first.
The extract is made from '25 herbal dry mass per 100 ml of alcohol. Put the mixture in a jar in a dry, dark place for two weeks. Shake every day.
In arrhythmia and high blood pressure
The wonderful lemon balm has a calming effect, which in some cases can normalize the heartbeat – if the arrhythmia is associated with strong emotions, stress.
Abnormal heart rhythm can be regulated with medications, but also with herbal products containing lemon balm. The leaves of the herb neutralize muscle spasms of internal organs and blood vessels, which returns the cardiovascular system in its normal functional frames.
Furthermore, lemon balm helps relaxing blood vessels, and to lower blood pressure. That’s why the herb is not recommended for patients with hypotonic blood pressure. This tea can be drunk in the case of cardiac neurosis.
Recipe useful in ischemic heart disease, arrhythmias, and hypertension
Pour a cup of boiling water over 4 teaspoons dry lemon balm. After an hour, strain and drink half a cup, three times a day before meals.
In depression
In hysterical conditions or depression, prepare the following infusion:

20 g dry herb Pour a cup of boiling water over 20 gr. dry lemon balm, after an hour, strain. Drink half a cup, three times a day.
Recipe 2
Pour 250 ml boiling water, over 10gr. dried and crushed herb, to stay for an hour, strain and drink three times a day, 100 ml. The recipe works at neuroses during menopause.
Lemon balm at irregular periods and menstrual pain
It has been shown that intake of products with lemon balm helps to regulate the menstrual cycle. Therefore, the herb is recommended in such cases, especially in painful conditions - it calms the muscles of the reproductive system.
